Nucleus Arts ArtFest
, 22 June: Medway Skylark's performance by all accounts went down a storm, raising awareness of our singing and movement therapy group. We also raised £22.17 in our collection bucket - which will come in very useful. Very well done to all concerned.
Please scroll down for videos of Medway Skylarks singing at the Pentagon Shopping Centre on 10 April and singing in Canterbury on 13 April 2019 - both events to support Parkinson's UK Awareness week.
Many thanks to all who participated in the Medway Community Showcase at the Brook Theatre on Sunday 17 March. The audience were very appreciative, so I think that we can say that we went down very well!! No filming was allowed in the auditorium, but Louise Bungay did take a video clip of us just before we went on stage, see below. Brook Theatre to produce a DVD of this event, details to follow.

This therapeutic activity has been proven to be effective for those with Parkinson's Disease and the research has now been widened to include ALL other neurological conditions. Medway Skylarks is now an Associate of Canterbury Cantata Trust's 'Sing to Beat Parkinson's
' network. Medway Skylarks meet Saturday mornings (during school term times), from 10.30am to noon, at the St Mary's Island Community Centre, Island Way West, Chatham, Kent ME4 3EP.

Funding News: Many thanks to Bluebird Care for awarding us a £250 community grant, see below. We have also recently been awarded a grant of £1,040 by Medway CCG Small Grants scheme administered by Involving Medway via Medway Community Foundation. This will fully fund 'Sing to Beat' practioners, who run the sessions, for a full term of 13 weeks. Last year Medway Skylarks received a grant of £1,000 from the Aviva Community Fund, as a result of an application by Arthur Waters. We would like to thank all those that helped apply for these grants, and of course we would like to thank the organisations that provided them.
Grenville Hancox, Honorary Professor of Music and Wellbeing at the University of Kent/ Canterbury Cantata Trust, has been closely involved with developing the Skylarks movement and sees this new group as leading the way for other developments nationally. Prof. Hancox said, "Medway Skylarks, supported by the Medway Neurological Network, will show how singing can help and compliment traditional medical approaches to combating neurological problems and is part of a campaign to secure Singing on Prescription and change our world!”
Medway Skylarks has also been invited to give a number of local performances, which they are very willing to do to help promote this therapy.
